Recommendations for April 4 Election

Jason Smith will bring Framingham exactly what we need at this point: a fresh start.

The townwide election is Tuesday, April 4, and the vacancies include one seat on the Board of Selectmen, four seats at Town Meeting, two seats on the Planning Board, two seats on the School Board, and the seat for Moderator.

Many people have asked for help in choosing among the candidates, and we have put together this guide for you. These represent the consensus picks of a variety of STEPPS members, not the picks of any individuals or STEPPS as a whole. We believe STEPPS members would do best by voting for the following. If you agree, please let your neighbors know how important this election is.

Board of Selectmen: Jason Smith

Jason has always been up front with his support of the Framingham Police Department including the need to hire more police officers and support any recommendation that Police Chief Carl makes. He has a lot to learn, but is clearly the candidate with the will to do something about the explosion of social services in Framingham. Katie forced through a vote supporting the health clinic while preventing Ginger Esty from requesting important documents on it, she has tried to stymie Town Meeting on a bill giving the Planning Board more say in Framingham’s  housing policy, and has done little if anything to stem the flood of social services coming to Framingham. Katie Murphy has served Framingham well over the years and we hope she continues to do so in some capacity. Her passion cannot be questioned. However,  Jason Smith will bring Framingham exactly what we need at this point: a fresh start. Please vote for Jason Smith.

Town Meeting Members: Doug Freeman, Ted Cosgrove, Cynthia Laurora

This one is for those of you in Precinct 11 only, and the choice is easy: Doug, Ted, and Cynthia are all STEPPS members and they’re all on your side. Please vote for Doug Freeman and Ted Cosgrove and write in the name

CYNTHIA LAURORA

as your third vote. (You have one other vote for a fourth Town Meeting member, but we have no recommendation for it.)

Moderator: Ed Noonan

The Moderator race is between incumbent Ed Noonan and Town Meeting Member Joel Winett. For the position of Moderator, we urge you to vote for Ed Noonan.  Ed has done a terrific job and has a firm grasp of the parliamentary complexities the Moderator has to deal with.  While Joel Winett might be a good moderator, we already know Ed Noonan is, and there’s simply no reason to take a chance on a newcomer when the incumbent is so good.

Planning Board: Carol Spack and Tom Mahoney

Carol and Tom are the incumbents and while they don’t always vote as we’d like, there is no question about their competence and dedication to the town. We see no reason to vote against them. Please vote for Carol Spack and Tom Mahoney.

School Committee: Andy Limeri, Pam Richardson

There are two seats open for the School Committee and four candidates. We urge you to vote for Pam Richardson and Andy Limeri. Pam Richardson, the incumbent,  is on the Standing Committee for Education (Chair, 1 year), the Stapleton PTO, the Massachusetts Association of School Committees, and many, many more. Andy Limeri has been Chairman of the Standing Committee for Education for 2 years. He has has done a lot of work volunteering in the schools, working with children, is very active in the Stapleton PTO, and is a member of the school council at the Stapleton School. We have nothing against the other candidates, but no one else even comes close to the experience and expertise of Richardson and Limeri.

Please remember to vote on Tuesday!
